MURREE: Kohsar University Murree has put the future of local colleges at risk. The university neither has its own land nor infrastructure and has been established within the premises of Girls and Boys Colleges.
Currently, the university is operating across four locations with classes being held in Jhika Gali, Murree Mall Road near Punjab House, and the administration block situated at Kashmir Point. Admissions for students seeking to enroll in the colleges have been drastically restricted, while teachers posted there are being transferred to other cities.
After matriculation, students are left with no option but to either pay heavy fees to get admission to the university or travel to other cities to complete FA/FSc before returning to pursue higher education.
Most of the university’s departments are still inactive, and until a separate campus is built, the institution cannot deliver its promised benefits. Students in these colleges live under constant fear of being removed by the university administration, while the teachers also face uncertainty.
The Chief Minister of Punjab, the Provincial Education Minister, and the Secretary of Education have been urged to immediately intervene, restore the colleges, and begin construction of a dedicated campus for Kohsar University so that students, parents, and teachers can be freed from this prolonged mental distress.
