To promote Peace & Tolerance through art, LUMS students launched project “RUNG”

LAHORE, 3rd December 2018: Students of Lahore University of Management Sciences – LUMS launched a project ‘RUNG’ to promote tolerance and inclusiveness for minorities in the society through art, debate, drama, sports and other games.
RUNG team will implement the idea by conducting workshops on religious and ethnic tolerance in different educational institutes with students from different religious, economic and cultural backgrounds. The workshops include competitions of art, debate, drama, sports and other games involving teamwork. The students are required to focus on messages of Tolerance, Acceptance and Peace in the different modes of expression. Hence, they are aiming to reach out to the young minds through a learning experience of the simplest sort, as we believe that the simplest action can leave the deepest impact.
“Our mission is to promote values of Tolerance, Peace, and Acceptance among young students of different educational institutes through Art and Critical Thinking (ACT)” said member of the team RUNG.
Just as different colors merge to form the white light, people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds come together to form a country. This kaleidoscopic beauty of diversity is what makes Pakistan one of the most culturally rich and ethnically diverse countries. The idea of diversity is enticing, but unfortunately, Pakistan is sinking into a state of despair where discrimination has begun to prevail rapidly.
The constitution of Pakistan, especially articles 25 and 26, promises non-discrimination on the basis of religion, sex or race. Yet, there are many instances of discrimination, especially concerning religious minorities in Pakistan, which limit the opportunities and freedom of our minorities. We believe that such discrimination is superficial and needs to be eradicated in order to make a more harmonious and productive society, focused on communal prosperity rather than personal gains.
The celebration of the multi-ethnic beauty of Pakistan can only be done through tolerance and love among the citizens of our beloved homeland, and Rung is determined to do so, step by step.
