LAHORE: Punjab Local government department in its working paper has recommended reserving two percent quota in local government

Secretary Local Government Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal said that in order to safeguard the rights of transgenders and to empower them, it is essential to make them part of our work force. Therefore, the way we have quotas reserved for women, disabled and minorities, a quota for transgender also, in all formations of LG&CD, should be reserved.

“LG&CD Department intends to reserve 2 percent employment quota for the transgender in its attached departments, autonomous body, authorities and local government institutions,” the working paper reads.

The working paper read that “Currently 15 percent employment quota reserved for women, 0.3 percent employment quota reserved for disabled while five percent employment quota reserved for minorities.”

Transgender leader Nayyab Ali while speaking to the “The Dayspring” said that the working paper of Punjab Local government has suggested what our community need as the deprived transgender people are important segment of the society. He added that employment opportunities for trans people in government departments will not only uplift their living standard but will also help them in getting education.

According to working paper, “Appointments against 57 posts of Local Government Service, under the Punjab Local Government Board and 35 posts of Directorate General LG&CD Department shall be made on merit by the Punjab Public Service, from amongst the candidates having required/prescribed qualification for the post, on the basis of test/interview conducted by the Commission.”

“Appointment against approximately 1366 posts of LCS in 359 Local governments in Punjab shall be made by the concerned Local Government from amongst the candidates, having prescribed qualification for the post and no relaxation in prescribed qualification for the post shall be made,” the Punjab LG working paper reads.

As many as eight posts have been reserved for transgender in the Walled City of Lahore (WCLA), 57 posts in Punjab Local Government Board in Lahore and 1366 across Punjab respectively while 35 posts have been recommended to allocate for transgender in Directorate General LG&CD.
