Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz will contest forthcoming general election from NA-125 as an independent candidate.
The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Returning Officer (RO) Asif Bashir has allotted Pencil symbol to Maryam Nawaz after she announced to contest election from NA-125 as independent candidate.
The electoral symbol was allotted to the PML-N leader on the application of her lawyer.
Maryam Nawaz had submitted nomination papers for NA-125 as an independent candidate and she hadn’t withdrawn her papers yesterday (Friday) on the last day to withdraw nomination papers.
Talking to Dunya News, Tanveer Zia Butt, the counsel of ex-PM’s daughter said that he had reached ECP office to withdraw the nomination papers but the time had ended.
On the other hand, talking to media in London, Maryam Nawaz said that the slogan of Nawaz Sharif has reached every home in the country.
She said that the 2018 general elections is a referendum and the people know who to vote and the voters cannot be bought.
Earlier, the top brass of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) had twice altered constituency of Maryam Nawaz for contesting general elections 2018.
The PML-N’s top brass had issued ticket to Maryam Nawaz to contest general elections from Lahore’s NA-125 against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmeen Rashid but then her constituency was changed from NA-125 to NA-127 and party leader Pervaiz Malik was given ticket for NA-125.
On Thursday, the PML-N taking another u-turn, issued the ticket of NA-125 to Waheed Alam who was earlier to contest the elections from NA-133.
Waheed Alam who was earlier to contest the elections from NA-133, will now contest election from NA-125 after the constituency of Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was altered from NA-125 to NA-127.
Now Pervaiz Malik will be the party’s candidate from NA-133.
It is pertinent here to mention that Maryam Nawaz—who is facing graft proceedings in Avenfield reference along with his father Nawaz Sharif and husband Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar—is currently in London attending her ailing mother Kusloom Nawaz
