ISLAMABAD: A ceremony was celebrated the start of the EUR 64 million Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector Support Programme- Phase IV. This initiative, part of the European Union’s Team Europe Initiative, aims to create green jobs in Pakistan. It brings together the EU, France, Germany, and Italy.

The programme, supported by the European Union and the Government of Germany, focuses on improving technical education and job opportunities for Pakistani youth.

At the event, Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui emphasized the government’s dedication to creating job opportunities for economic growth. He stressed the importance of skills development, especially in high-tech trades, and expanding these programmes to remote areas.

EU Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka highlighted the need to reform the TVET sector to meet young people’s needs, particularly women. She emphasized the importance of harnessing youth potential for Pakistan’s prosperity and creating an inclusive environment. The EU has been a major supporter of TVET in Pakistan since 2011.

The TVET programme not only involves Team Europe but also contributes to the EU’s Global Gateway Initiative, aiming to invest in the skills of young Pakistanis. Dr. Angelika Fleddermann, Country Director of GIZ Pakistan, explained that the programme aims to upgrade technology in remote regions, engage the private sector, and strengthen national-level systems in TVET. Their goal is to actively involve TVET in strategic planning and delivery.
