Depression among youth

By: Shehroze Sultan

The Generation Z is discombobulated and is involved in many shenanigans.  Shenanigans can be of any type starting from teasing girls, living fake happy lives on social media, taking pills etc. The youth may look like a well-organized, disciplined and healthy youth but in actual their lives are catawampus. We witness them in malarkey fighting over trifling issues. We see them posting pictures of every moment they can share on social media. They seem to believe it as their utmost duty to comment on every post they see without even bothering to understand the meaning. Slang language has become a trend.

Long story short it looks very beautiful from outside but when we take the liberty of peeking in society the reality is something else. The suicide rate is higher than any other time. Use of drugs, ecstasy tablets are common which has destroyed millions of lives. People have thousands of friends on social media but no one to talk to them in person. People are loner then they were ever before. All because of DEPRESSION. It must be clear to you till now that a depressed person doesn’t necessarily have to be a flunky fellow with long hairs and messed up clothes but it can be a well shaved stylish boy or a confident beautiful smiling girl. Now the question is where does the depression comes from. Probably 70 percent of the people reading this article are depressed and they don’t even know it. We all encounter several people who are depressed but we don’t know. A depressed person wastes his life in indecisiveness and by the time he gets over it it’s too late and suicide is the best option for him/her. Anyone can be in this position your brother, sister, wife, husband, parents, friend, relative and probably you. As a confident good-looking well-paid citizen of society, you won’t go to anyone asking for help as it looks bad and it hurts our ego same like this No one will come to you and say that I am depressed Help me. What characteristics you must posses to help someone out or at least yourself. First of all, if we can’t help someone get over at least we can try not to put someone in this situation. Every day we taunt on the physique of our comrades. An unnecessary comparison between children and inequality in almost every situation. Yes, it is us who does this. We are the cause of putting many souls in depression without knowing them. Our words have power we can use it to mend a broken soul or completely destroys someone life just by using our words. So, how do you help them. I don’t want to share the signs and symbols of a depressed person because I believe being a human (a superior creature) a little observation of our surrounding can tell us about the real mental condition of someone. We can judge it if we focus on their talks but we have to empower ourselves enough to get someone to share your problem with you because only sharing can remove half of the stress. Nobody knows what is in the heart of someone and we don’t want a psychologist roaming in every street so the only possible way to figure it out is if we start believing in ourselves. If we have enough confidence to take our own decision and this can become true if parents involve their children in decisions.it will not only solve depression but a dozen more problems.

Meeting new people, trying new things, visiting new places even a different route from your office or school can be a change but it will put a dopamine which will not allow depression even to wander near you or your loved one. Say bye to Depression believe me it’s that easy. I end this with an imagination of you smiling.
