ISLAMABAD: Embassy of Denmark in Pakistan celebrated Constitution Day with full fervour and zeal. The Constitution Day reception was comprised of a gathering of people from different walks of life and was arranged at the residence of Danish Ambassador Lis Rosenholm.
Constitution Day in Denmark is observed on June 5 to commemorate the day that marked the signing of the Danish Constitution along with its four revised editions occurring on the same date. The day marked the birth of Danish democracy and the end of absolute monarchy. 5 June was also the day when important amendments were made to the Constitution: In 1915, Danish women received the right to vote, and in 1953, women were allowed to succeed to the throne.
Danish Ambassador, Lis Rosenholm in her welcome speech said that on this day, the Danes celebrate the fundamental pillars of democracy: freedom of speech, individual rights, and freedom of assembly. She said that Pakistan and Denmark have healthy bilateral relations and showed commitment to further diversifying bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and investment. She also said that a huge Pakistani community is living in Denmark and they are equally putting their efforts in making Denmark more strong.
Lis Rosenholm also lauded the role of the Pakistan Army in evacuation operations from Afghanistan and efforts for regional stability.
Maria Ana Petrera, the Head of Green Growth and Sustainability also thanked the Pakistani people and diplomatic community for joining the celebrations of constitution day of Denmark.
