Islamabad: Bangladesh celebrated its 54th Armed Forces Day in Islamabad, reflecting the renewed warmth and expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan across multiple sectors, including defence. The event underscored a notable improvement in bilateral relations over the past year, marking a significant phase of engagement between the two countries.
The commemorative reception was hosted by Bangladesh’s Defence Advisor, Brigadier General Abu Rubel Shabuddin, along with High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, at a local hotel in the federal capital. The ceremony was attended by senior civil and military officials, ambassadors, defence attachés from various countries, members of civil society, and media representatives.
Observers noted that this growing level of cooperation is being witnessed for the first time since 1971, with both sides demonstrating mutual goodwill and a desire to strengthen relations in diverse fields. The Islamabad celebration served as a visible expression of this positive momentum.
Although Bangladesh Armed Forces Day is observed annually on 21 November, the event in Islamabad was held on 23 January due to unforeseen high-level engagements, including reciprocal visits by senior military commanders from both countries.
