Power shortfall was only 355MW

A spokesperson for the Power Division has said that on June 25 overall electricity demand peaked at 23,055 megawatts while electricity generation and supply stood at 22,700MW, showing a meagre shortfall of 355MW. He stated this while responding to a news story titled “Power shortfall hits record peak” and published in The Express Tribune on June 26. According to the spokesperson, power distribution companies, in order to reduce losses at their high-loss feeders, drew electricity from the available generation accordingly at 11-kilovolt feeders’ level. Dismissing the impression that consumers were facing prolonged outages in the country, the spokesperson said only the areas where power theft was rampant and some constraints were faced at the distribution level, witnessed scheduled and announced electricity load management. “Distribution companies are getting electricity almost as per their demand at 11kv feeders.”
