Police finalise security plan for Ramazan

KARACHI: The Sindh police has prepared its security plan for the coming month of Ramazan expected to start on Thursday. As many as 55,702 policemen will perform security duties across the province during the holy month.

The plan, titled the Ramazaul Mubarak Contingency Plan 2018, was finalised on Monday by Sindh Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khowaja during a high-level meeting held at the Central Police Office. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including Karachi AIG Mushtaq Maher, and DIGs for Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Agency, headquarters and administration. The IG directed the police to ensure strict security during Ramazan.

Plan for KarachiA plan prepared by AIG Mahar was presented at the meeting, according to which more than 26,780 police personnel will perform security duties at nearly 4,215 mosques and places for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina during Ramazan across Karachi. Around 500 police mobile units and motorcycle squads have also been tasked with conducting snap-checking in the city.

According to the plan, 26,780 policemen will comprise 19,400 personnel from the Karachi police range and 7,380 from the traffic police.

Other divisions

According to a plan submitted by the Hyderabad DIG, over 1,162 policemen will perform security duties at 2,108 mosques and places of worship for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina during Ramazan. As many as 216 police mobile units and 169 motorcycle squads have been deployed for snap-checking.

Over 6,106 policemen will perform security duties at 660 mosques and places for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina during Ramazan in Mirpurkhas, according to a plan submitted by the Mirpurkhas DIG.

Similarly, over 4,504 policemen will be deployed in Shaheed Benazirabad to provide security at 1,542 mosques and places for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina, the meeting was told.

In Sukkur, over 3,661 police personnel will perform security duties at 605 mosques and places for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina during Ramazan.

The Larkana DIG also presented a plan at the meeting, according to which over 10,453 men will provide security at 947 mosques and places for taraweeh and mehfil-e-shabina during the holy month. As many as 230 police mobile units and 219 motorcycle squads will conduct snap checking in Larkana, according to the security plan.
