ISLAMABAD, 4th January, 2018: In the light of the initiative taken by Honourable Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar to control the population, a meeting on National Action Plan was held by Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination in Islamabad. The meeting aimed at ensuring realization of Council of Common Interest approved recommendations for family planning in Pakistan.
Mr Abdul Ghafar Khan DG Population, chaired the meeting to discuss the provincial action plans in light with instructions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The meeting was attended by Secretaries, Health and Population Punjab and KPK, Director Generals of Health and Population departments of Balochistan and Sindh, District Population Welfare Officer Rawalpindi Ms Shireen Sukhan, CEO of Rahnuma-FPAP Mr Syed Kamal Shah, Representatve of Youth Mr Fsahat Ul Hassan and representative of UNFPA attended the meeting.
It is the first time that youth was acknowledged as a key stakeholder in tackling the population problem.
Mr. Fsahat Ul Hassan Chairman Youth Advocacy Network and Director The Dayspring attended the meeting on behalf of the newly formed ‘National Youth Alliance on Family Planning’ which consists of different Civil Society Organisations including media. Fsahat gave a detailed presentation about the goals and objectives of the alliance. “We fully endorse and support the initiative taken by Supreme Court of Pakistan to curb the population problem, which is need of the hour” said Fsahat Ul Hassan. He also thanked Government to provide space to youth in devising action plan on population control.
The newly formed alliance led by Youth Advocacy Network includes; The Dayspring, CHANAN Development, SSDO, Work to Empower, WANG and Social Sangat.
Civil Society Representative and CEO of Rahnuma-FPAP Mr Syed Kamal Shah and Secretary Population KP Mr. Asghar Ali appreciated the interest of youth in tackling the population problem.
