ISLAMABAD: MNA Shehla Raza on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif impose an ad-hoc setup on hockey and appoint a neutral interim president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to ensure clean and transparent elections.
Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club, Shehla Raza said the current PHF president is nominated, not elected, and alleged that Tariq Bugti, appointed to scrutinize clubs and conduct elections, unlawfully got himself elected despite being a caretaker.
She said the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had rejected one-sided scrutiny of clubs and raised concerns over the financial credibility of the PHF, warning that continued mismanagement would further damage the national sport, as players are not even receiving daily allowances.
Former Olympians Shahnaz Sheikh and Samiullah, along with other hockey legends, also spoke at the press conference and urged the Prime Minister to intervene to save Pakistan hockey, which has declined significantly over the past two decades.
