ISLAMABAD: The 11th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology was held at PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Lahore, under the chairmanship of MNA Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood. Dr. Syed Hussain Imam Abidi (Chairman PCSIR) and Dr. Quratulain Syed (DG, Lahore Labs) briefed members on advancements in technology development, import substitution, export enhancement, and quality assurance.
The committee praised the internationally recognized testing capabilities of Lahore Labs and appreciated PCSIR’s role in promoting applied research and innovation. They recommended establishing a PCSIR lab in Southern Punjab, especially Multan, to focus on biotech cotton and oil seed research.
Committee members acknowledged Dr. Abidi’s leadership and recommended retaining Dr. Quratulain as a consultant to ensure continuity in strategic projects. Members also visited research facilities and the hemp cultivation site, commending PCSIR’s contributions to national economic development.
