A Norwegian Pakistani has been honoured with a special award for his extraordinary efforts for the welfare of the children and young people with minority backgrounds.
Aziz ur Rehman was awarded for the community work that he has done for the immigrant communities in Norway. Norwegian Government Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (BUFDIR), which is a special body of Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion (BLD) gave the award titled, “Arets Forbilde” (Role Model for the year), which is given after every two years.
The prestigious ceremony was held at Nobel Peace Centre in the Norwegian Capital Oslo earlier on Monday during which Minister for Children and Equality Linda Hofstad Helleland handed over this award to Rehman.
Aziz ur Rehman, an intellectual, broadcaster and social worker, is also the Council for Immigration Organisations chairman, an elected body at local government in Oslo.
He voluntarily worked for the people with foreign background at Søndre Nordstrand locality in Oslo for many years. He is also running a Radio named “Voice of Oslo”, which is aimed at foreigners based in this locality with social commitment. Rehman thanked the Directorate for giving him the award.
“Really, the children and youths with minority backgrounds need role models for their better future. They have many good opportunities in the society but they need motivations,” he said.
Aziz announced to utilise the prize money of 50,000 Norwegian Kroner for the welfare of children and young people in the immigrant community in Oslo.
