BANGKOK: Today marks a significant milestone in the global effort towards gender equity as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) unveils its Equity 2030 Alliance in the Asia-Pacific region. This initiative aims to accelerate actions that reshape the world for women and girls, ensuring they have equal access to opportunities and resources.

Highlighting the pressing need for gender inclusivity, Mr. Pio Smith, Regional Director for UNFPA Asia and the Pacific, stated, “The world can progress only when all women and girls have access to gender-equitable services. An equitable future can only be achieved if advances in science and technology include and address the needs of all.”

The launch event in Bangkok brought together key stakeholders from the diplomatic community, development partners, private sector, and academia. Participants engaged in discussions on integrating gender equity into the design of products, policies, and solutions across various sectors.

As a member of the Equity 2030 Alliance, Roche Pharmaceuticals expressed its commitment to closing equity gaps, specifically in women’s health. Ms. Hang Thi Thu Le, APAC Policy and System Shaping Lead, emphasized the urgent need for action in addressing women’s health needs.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) echoed this sentiment, stressing the significance of gender-responsive products and services in driving a more equitable economy. Ms. Amanda Satterly, Principal Social Development Specialist for Gender and Development, highlighted ADB’s efforts to design solutions that cater to women’s specific needs.

AirAsia MOVE showcased advancements in gender inclusivity with its MOVE app, underscoring the importance of understanding gender-specific needs and barriers. Ms. Nadia Omer, CEO of AirAsia MOVE, emphasized the role of innovation in unlocking untapped potential and promoting inclusive growth.

Looking ahead, youth advocate Ms. JiaJia Khwanchanok Paka-Akaralerdkul called for the development of more women-centered solutions to unlock the potential of young girls in STEM fields.

The Equity 2030 Alliance envisions a world of equal opportunities for all and invites partners to join this transformative initiative. Members are encouraged to take action by integrating gender equity at all stages of product solutions development, contributing to a world where everyone can realize their full potential.
